On Nov. 24, 2007, Sven Erik Omdal, Chief Editor and CEO of Stavanger Aftenblad, reports having received a letter from two Norwegian engineers Jan og Ove Hundseid who are urging Norwegian media to take a serious look at alternative views of the 9/11 events, after having for over six years systematically only reproduced the official account.  Recounting faithfully the questions raised by the engineers, the chief editor points out that according to a national opinion poll conducted in the United States by Scripps Howard/Ohio University, a third of Americans believe that their government has been involved in the events of 9/11 either by letting them happen or by actually facilitating them.

The chief editor also noticed that by refusing to deal with this widely held views, mass media may lose the trust of the public.  He then suggests to take a better look at the information sent by the two engineers.

On December 5, 2007, the Norwegian conservative daily Dagbladet reprinted an article by journalist Ingeborg Eliassen published on November 4, 2003 and entitled “Does not believe that Al  Qaeda committed 9/11”.  The author examined the views of Egyptians on the events of 9/11.  The journalist mentions that “conspiracy theories” on 9/11 are not only widely believed by the less educated in Egypt, but are equally shared by intellectuals.  As an example she mentions Diaa Rashwan, one of Egypt’s most reknown scholars on Islam and director of Al-Ahram center for political and strategic studies. In the previous month the English-language Al-Ahram Weekly published his article “Inconclusive evidence” about 9/11.

Rashwan was interviewed Rashwan at his office in Cairo in 2003. He said: As a researcher I work with facts. The US authorities have not for the last two years produced facts that convince me of Al Qaeda’s responsibility for the the attacks.  Was it Al Qaeda? And if not, who?  As to myself, I can only answer the first question: I do not believe that they did it.  The other answer lies beyond my field, he says, who does, however, have his own theory: The whole operation reeks of a state-intelligence operation.

Under the heading:  Two engineers urge politicians to ask what really happened on September 11, 2001, Kristin Aalen of the Norwegian daily Aftenbladet reports on December 13, 2007 about two brothers, Norwegian engineers, who campaign to challenge the official account on the collapse of the Twin Towers on 9/11.   In an interview with the two brothers said Jan Hunseid, one of them that they belong to the conservative constituency in Norway while the other, Ove, insists that their examination of 9/11 has nothing to do with right or left politics, but simply with right or wrong.  They are both fans of America.  In the interview they recount how they came to be interested in researching the issue, particularly because they found the near free-fall speed of the Towers’ collapse contrary to physical law.

In addition to the interview, the paper published photos revealing the extreme pulverization of the towers.  The courageous journalist Kristin Aalen who took the interview can be reached at   kristin – dot – aalen – at – aftenbladet – dot – no
